Flammable chemicals stored in domestic fridges/freezers can release nasty & harmful odours  surrounding environments, potentially affecting the health and well being of those working into the lab. Also and when in the presence of an ignition source, like the internal electrical components of a domestic referigerator or freezer, flammable chemicals can cause a fire and/or an explosion in the lab.

LIEBHERR has designed and manufactured purpose-built laboratory refrigerators and freezers with spark-free interiors to eliminate ignition sources inside the unit, and ensure the safe storage of highly explosive and flammable substances in sealed containers.

The LIEBHERR Spark-free Laboratory Refrigerators and Freezers with Electronic controller are certified to EU directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) and rated II 3G Ex nA II T6.
